Their design - combined with the physical vulnerability of younger riders - can lead to instability, rollovers, and serious injury or death. They should not be considered play equipment for children.

What you need to know

Between 2017 and 2024, 5 children under 14 died because of quad bikes. 2,700 children sustained injuries related to quad bikes.

Their size, weight, and design can lead to instability and rollovers, especially when used by younger riders. Children are especially vulnerable because they may not have the physical coordination or judgment to operate these vehicles safely.

We strongly advise that children do not operate or ride on quad bikes of any engine size, even with safety modifications.

These vehicles are not toys and are not suitable as play equipment.

What you need to do

We urge parents of children under 16 years old to refrain from allowing them to operate a quad bike with or without safety modifications, and of any engine size. The risks and potential of injury or death is very high.
