The Hazard!

As an owner of a Subaru Tribeca affected by this recall campaign, earlier in 2016 you should have received a letter that outlined the Recall details most specifically that there are two stages involved. You may have already had the stage one inspection done to your vehicle. Now the replacement parts for stage two have arrived, so we are getting back in touch so you can get this recall completed. If you have recently purchased your Tribeca, and therefore did not receive the aforementioned letter, don’t worry this stage two Recall replaces and overrides stage one. As a quick recap, the original information is replicated below Subaru of New Zealand has been advised by Fuji Heavy Industries the Japanese manufacturer of Subaru vehicles that: certain Model Year MY 2006 to 2014 Subaru Tribeca vehicles may have seized Bonnet Latching due to corrosion or lubricant congealing. In the highly unlikely event both the main bonnet latch and the secondary bonnet latch seize in the open position the bonnet will not latch correctly when closing and in a worst case scenario, may subsequently cause the bonnet to open during driving, causing impairment to the driver’s field of vision. Please note there are no reported cases in New Zealand of the bonnet latch mechanisms seizing on affected Tribecas. Consequently, Subaru of New Zealand has decided to carry out a safety recall out of an abundance of caution, following notification from FHI. This second stage of the Recall Rectification Procedure consists of replacement of main bonnet latch and the secondary bonnet latch replaced with a modified version.

What to do...

If you still own the vehicle please contact your Subaru Authorised Dealer and arrange a mutually acceptable appointment to have the Recall Rectification Procedure carried out. This procedure will be carried out free of charge. Time for this is approximately 1 hour for the rectification to take place. Your local Subaru Authorised Dealer will be able to provide a more accurate time estimate. However, extra time may be required to allow the Dealer flexibility in scheduling.
