The Hazard!

Subaru of New Zealand have been advised by Fuji Heavy Industries (the manufacturer of Subaru vehicles) that in certain 2015 Subaru Legacy and Outback vehicles, in the event of a brake lamp switch failure, the Pre collision brake system may not operate as intended in an emergency braking situation (where the driver has failed to apply the brake), or may fail to properly engage the brakes when the vehicle has been placed in adaptive cruise control mode. This is due to a software programming issue. Because of this Subaru New Zealand will conduct a Safety Related Recall on behalf of Fuji Heavy Industries. It is important to note that the condition does not affect the performance of the brakes when engaged by the driver. Nor is there any known defect with the brake lamp switch itself. The recall will involve downloading an updated program into your Subaru.

What to do...

Please contact your Authorised Subaru Dealer as soon as possible to arrange an appointment that is mutually acceptable to have the reprogramming procedure carried out.
