The Hazard!
This is an amendment to the affected vehicles in the previous recall campaigns that were launched globally in 2013, 2014 and 2015. It has been identified that the PASSENGERS airbag inflators may have been manufactured out of specification. This may result in the propellant in the airbag inflator deteriorating. Deterioration of the propellant may lead to abnormal deployment of the driver airbag when activated. In rare cases, the inflator housing may rupture and the metal fragments may scatter. Nissan is unaware of any incidents associated with this issue on Takata airbags in Nissan vehicles in Australia/NZ.
What to do...
Owners of affected vehicles within the affected VIN range will be advised by letter to contact their Nissan Dealer to arrange for rectification of their vehicle. The rectification involves replacing the front passenger airbag inflator. The replacement is at no cost to the customer.
