When driving over long grass, vegetation may accumulate under the car, near the exhaust system. In the course of normal operation, the exhaust system in that area may reach a high temperature. If sufficient grass or other combustible material accumulates, this high temperature could create a risk of fire. Ford Motor Company has developed additional heat shielding around the exhaust system. Additionally, for 4x4/2x4 HiRider only, an underbody shield has been developed to prevent accumulation of grass or vegetation near high temperature areas of the exhaust system.
