BMW Motorrad has ascertained that the timing-chain tensioners installed in the vehicles affected are not compliant with BMW Motorrad specifications. On account of a manufacturing defect, the timing-chain tensioner is subject to wear. This means that gradually, the timing chain is no longer adequately tensioned and as a result it slips its sprockets, causing the engine to die.
